This article is for Disclosers and provides guidance on how to enter numeric data the use of decimal points in CDP’s new Portal.
Contents
Numerical separators are used differently around the world, with either commas (,) or full stops (.) to signify a decimal, separators or other groupings.
CDP’s new Portal supports the standard UK/US numerical separator standard, therefore when entering data in the Portal, Disclosers must use a full stop (.) to indicate a decimal point. Commas (,) cannot be used or entered in numeric fields to indicate a decimal point, or to separate digits into groups, such as thousands.
Please note, if data is copied and pasted into the questionnaire with any commas included, the commas will be automatically removed. This may change the value of the number intended and lead to errors in your reported data.
For example:
If you type "3,30" the comma will not be accepted and the system will register "330" in the input field.
If you copy "9,20" and paste it into the response field the system will paste "920".
Please note, you will not see a notification about this so we rely on you, as a discloser, to input data in the correct format.
Given the automatic removal of commas, to ensure that the data you have input is accurate, you should review your response and ensure decimal points are used correctly.
This applies to all numeric fields across the questionnaire.
We recommend that users input and review to confirm that all of their numeric data is entered as follows:
If you wish to enter the value three thousand one hundred and fifty point two five it should be entered as “3150.25”.
If you attempt to enter a comma to indicate a decimal instead such as in the number “3150,25”, the Portal will not accept the comma, and this will be read as 315025.
Equally, if a space is used to indicate the decimal point, and a value of "3150 25” is entered, this will be read as 315025.
Please note: numerical data from responses from previous years will be standardized, therefore should appear correctly. E.g. if you copy forward data from a previous response from 2023 and that response was "15,25", it will be changed in the new Portal to "15.25".
Please note, it is the responsibility of the discloser to check and review the accuracy of the data entered before submitting your questionnaire. If you’re in doubt about the format of the numbers being entered we suggest you double check the data before entering it into the system.
